To further improve the passenger travel experience, Guiyang Airport began trial operations of self-driving shuttle buses in the terminal building on September 24. As of October 13, the self-driving shuttle service has been running smoothly and in an orderly manner, with a cumulative total of 10,323 passengers having experienced it.
In response to the practical problem that Guiyang Airport's Terminal 2 and Terminal 3 are far apart, making cross-terminal transfers inconvenient for passengers, Guiyang Airport Co., Ltd. partnered with Guizhou Hankaisi Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd. to launch a free self-driving shuttle connection service. Dedicated waiting platforms were set up separately in front of Gate 13 of Terminal 2 and Gate 19 of Terminal 3, and two L4-level self-driving Robobus vehicles were deployed to provide free shuttle connections for cross-terminal passengers.
During the trial operation period, passengers could hail the bus by waving, and later passengers can complete real-name verification by scanning a QR code on site and other methods before boarding on their own. The vehicles operate in a circular shuttle mode, departing immediately two minutes after the first passenger boards, significantly improving the transfer efficiency between terminals.
The shuttle route for the self-driving shuttle buses runs from Gate 13 of Terminal 2 to Gate 19 of Terminal 3 at Guiyang Airport. It is reported that the project aims to implement the requirements of building a "safe, green, smart, and humanistic" airport, focusing on improving the efficiency of passenger cross-terminal travel. The connection route is about 400 meters long in total, with a maximum passenger capacity of 6 people per vehicle. Passengers walking between terminals take about 10 minutes, while riding takes only 2 minutes, effectively easing the long-distance walking pressure on groups such as air-rail transfer passengers, passengers carrying large luggage, elderly passengers, and passengers traveling with infants and young children.
In addition, the shuttle buses provide shade and shelter from rain for passengers, making cross-terminal travel more relaxed.
The self-driving shuttle bus has a maximum passenger capacity of 6 people per vehicle. Passengers experience the self-driving shuttle service.
