Elon Musk Announces Next-Gen Starlink Satellites to Deliver 5G-Speed Internet from Space

Elon Musk shared a post from the official Starlink account stating: "The next generation of Starlink Mobile satellites will provide 5G-speed internet from space, with 100 times the data density of the current V1 satellites. V2 satellites will seamlessly support streaming, web browsing, high-speed applications, and voice calls, just like connecting to a terrestrial network."

On January 9 of this year, the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) officially approved SpaceX's deployment of an additional 7,500 second-generation Starlink satellites. With this authorization, SpaceX has now received official approval for a total of 15,000 second-generation satellites.

Compared to the first generation, the second-generation Starlink satellites feature significant technological advantages, including support for higher communication capacity, lower signal latency, and more advanced satellite architecture. They also add the ability to operate across multiple frequency bands, such as Ku, Ka, V, E, and W.

These upgrades not only enable the satellites to support both fixed and mobile satellite services simultaneously but also optimize signal coverage and stability through key measures such as reducing orbital altitude—new orbital shell ranges are set between 340 km and 485 km. This significantly enhances service performance and user experience.
