[Click to register] (Source: Here is Shuozhou) In the golden autumn season, across the vast fields beyond the Great Wall, fiery red sorghum raises torches of victory, and heavy corn cobs convey the joy of harvest. At the thousand-mu corn planting base in Jinshatan Town, Huairen City, large-scale grower Zhu Yuze stands on the field ridge, holding a mobile phone in his hand, with the screen showing the operation interface of an intelligent water and fertilizer integrated machine. "In the past, farming relied on old experience; now it relies on data." Old Zhu pointed to the black drip irrigation tape not far away and said that with the intelligent water and fertilizer system launched this year, remote control via mobile phone allows water and fertilizer to be drip-irrigated directly to the crop roots, with precise and controllable amounts. Not only has labor use been reduced by more than half, but the corn has also grown more uniformly and robustly, and its lodging resistance has been greatly improved, with a bumper harvest in sight.
This is a vivid practice of our city adhering to the integrated support of improved varieties, improved methods, improved farmland, and improved machinery, and accelerating the transformation of agricultural scientific and technological achievements into real productivity. In recent years, our city has anchored the goal of modern agricultural development, based on the distinctive endowments of regional dryland agriculture, adhered to invigorating agriculture through science and technology and strengthening agriculture through digitalization, continuously strengthened agricultural technological innovation and practical application, vigorously promoted advanced planting models, intelligent agricultural machinery and equipment, and digital management systems, and comprehensively advanced the transformation and upgrading of traditional agriculture. This year, the city's integrated technology of film-side sowing of corn and miscellaneous grains with the effects of "three increases" and "three resistances" reached 560,000 mu, 360,000 mu of organic dryland agricultural production bases were built, the rice planting area on saline-alkali land reached more than 5,000 mu, and the contribution rate of agricultural science and technology reached more than 64%. A new picture of efficient, intensive, green, and high-quality smart agriculture is slowly unfolding in the green oasis beyond the Great Wall.
Walking into the greenhouse of Tang Xiyong, a grower in Shizhuang Village, Xiashe Town, Ying County, the third crop of green beans has entered the vine-stretching stage. He calculated this year's harvest: "The first crop of baby bok choy sold for 3,000 yuan per mu, the second crop of green beans sold for 9,000 yuan per mu, and the third crop of green beans is expected to yield 4,000 jin per mu." Three harvests a year is rare in the history of cold greenhouse planting in northern Shanxi. Shizhuang Village has 60 contiguous vegetable cold greenhouses. In the past, open-field bean planting yielded only one harvest a year, and returns were unstable; later, some people tried simple two-crop cultivation, but due to inaccurate crop rotation衔接 and poor variety adaptability, the benefits were not obvious. After Lan Chuangye, the lead of the protected vegetable research group at Shanxi Agricultural University, brought a technical team into the village, they demonstrated and promoted the efficient rotation model of "overwintering seedling cabbage-early spring green beans-autumn green beans" with three crops a year, integrating staggered crop rotations, crop rotation, and supporting technologies, systematically solving multiple problems such as extending the production cycle, staggered listing, and alleviating continuous cropping obstacles. "Integrated technology can extend the effective annual growth period of crops in the greenhouse by 90 days compared with the natural frost-free period, breaking through the natural constraint of a short frost-free period in northern Shanxi on protected vegetable production capacity," said Lan Chuangye. Grower Sun Mingqing has grown vegetables for 30 years and has also practiced cold greenhouse planting for 15 years. Three harvests a year was previously unimaginable. "Now with three crops, income has increased several times over." Speaking of this, Old Sun was so happy that he could not close his mouth.
Our city continues to promote the construction of the "vegetable basket." This year, the city's protected agricultural greenhouses reached 30,000 mu, the vegetable planting area reached 236,700 mu, and Ying County's vegetable planting area firmly ranked among the top three in Shanxi Province. From "one-season harvest" to "four-season production," and from traditional planting to smart management, our city's protected agriculture is accelerating its transformation toward intensification, standardization, and industrialization.
Our city also vigorously promotes seed industry innovation, deeply implements the seed industry revitalization action, focuses on the entire chain of germplasm protection, scientific research breakthroughs, base construction, enterprise cultivation, improved seed promotion, and regulatory services, and leverages the Institute of Ecological Agriculture and Animal Husbandry of Shanxi Agricultural University to carry out germplasm innovation, technology research and development, and demonstration promotion in corn, miscellaneous grains, forage breeding and cultivation, and herbivorous livestock breeding. This year, the city tested 110 new corn varieties and innovatively formed an efficient working model of "one-year trial, one-time filing, compliant promotion, and scientific access," with the coverage rate of improved varieties for major crops in the city reaching more than 98%.
The power of science and technology has also pointed out the path for land improvement and productivity enhancement. Our city has carried out comprehensive management and efficient utilization of saline-alkali land according to local conditions, deeply tapped the potential of idle land, and explored a new model of characteristic rice planting on saline-alkali land, turning formerly low-yield saline-alkali flats into high-yield and productive fields. This year, the city's rice planting area on saline-alkali land exceeded 5,000 mu. Through scientific and technological means such as soil improvement, precise water and fertilizer management, and adaptation of excellent rice varieties, it effectively solved the planting difficulties of saline-alkali land, enriched the local grain planting categories, improved the comprehensive output efficiency of land, and achieved a win-win situation of ecological governance and agricultural income growth.
The vigorous rise of smart agriculture cannot be separated from the comprehensive popularization of intelligent agricultural machinery and equipment. On the land reclaimed and transformed from coal mines in Baitang Township, Pinglu District, Beidou navigation smart agricultural machines shuttle through the fields, relying on high-precision satellite positioning and intelligent control systems to complete integrated operations such as automated land preparation, sowing, and soil covering. The once dusty abandoned mining area has now become neatly arranged and fertile tens of thousands of mu of good farmland. Smart agricultural machinery precisely manages every inch of land, enabling efficient and high-quality use of reclaimed land, revitalizing idle land resources, and injecting strong momentum into the city's modern agricultural development.
At the same time, our city continues to promote the construction of a smart agricultural machinery socialized service system, building pilot regional centers for smart agricultural machinery socialized services in Pinglu District and Huairen City, and constructing an intelligent service model covering the entire process of plowing, planting, management, and harvesting. Changtou Village in Shuocheng District, by updating and upgrading new multifunctional agricultural machinery and equipment, has realized integrated operations of multiple farming procedures. Compared with traditional equipment, operating efficiency has increased by more than 50%, fuel consumption has decreased by 20%, and the equipment failure rate has dropped significantly, saving costs and increasing income by more than 230,000 yuan per year for the village collective, truly making smart agricultural machinery a "hardcore force" for increasing rural industrial income.
Not limited to quality improvement and upgrading on the planting side, our city's smart agriculture development has achieved extension across the entire industrial chain, with intelligent and digital transformation also advancing simultaneously in the breeding sector. The city regularly carries out smart ranch upgrading and transformation, cultivating 5 to 10 standardized smart cattle farms and smart sheep farms each year, comprehensively promoting advanced technologies such as sheep face recognition, intelligent monitoring, and robotic feeding, building ranch intelligent management systems, precise feeding systems, and intelligent milking parlor management systems, and constructing a "central kitchen" model for breeding, achieving precise control and scientific feeding in livestock and poultry breeding, effectively improving the standardization level of livestock breeding and the core competitiveness of the industry, and promoting the coordinated and high-quality development of planting and breeding industries.
Standing by the Sanggan River and looking into the distance, Beidou-navigated seeders draw straight tracks across the fields, IoT sensors quietly stand guard in greenhouses, and data on digital platforms keeps jumping... From traditional manual farming to smart agricultural machinery operations, from experience-based planting to data-based farming, and from single planting and breeding to smart upgrading of the entire chain, our city is using scientific and technological innovation as the starting point to continuously make up for shortcomings in agricultural development and activate the potential of industrial development.
