Elon Musk outlined highly ambitious goals for SpaceX on Tuesday, including launching data centers into space by 2027 and achieving $1 trillion in revenue. This marked his first address to investors since the company's initial public offering (IPO).
The billionaire entrepreneur and SpaceX CEO's statements followed the release of a financial report showing significant revenue growth across its three core businesses: space, network connectivity, and artificial intelligence (AI).
As the world's largest rocket launch company and satellite internet provider, SpaceX reported total revenue of $7.8 billion for the second fiscal quarter, a 92% surge compared to the same period last year. Although the company narrowed its losses in the latest quarter, massive capital expenditure continued to weigh on its operations.
Capital spending for the quarter reached $18.4 billion, far exceeding the $2.8 billion recorded in the same period a year ago. Destiny Tech100 Inc shares closed up more than 9% on Tuesday. However, following the earnings release and the conference call, the stock fell more than 8% in after-hours trading.
During an hour-long call with analysts, Musk promoted several of the company's projected targets, such as SpaceX reaching $1 trillion in revenue by 2030, advancing the original timeline of achieving this goal by 2031. Musk and other executives also emphasized to analysts that these expenditures are crucial for company strategies, including building AI infrastructure.
