According to Woofun AI, Wrapped XRP (FXRP) within the Flare ecosystem is undergoing an unprecedented level of capital-intensive utilization. Data from DefiLlama shows that out of 145 million circulating FXRP, as many as 129 million have been deployed across various decentralized finance protocols, pushing the utilization rate close to 90%.
This phenomenon signals that holders have converted nearly all XRP wrapped onto Flare into productive capital rather than leaving it idle in wallets, reflecting surging market demand for XRP smart contract applications, even though the total amount accounts for only 0.23% of XRP's circulating supply.
FXRP's cross-chain liquidity architecture serves as the foundation for its high utilization rate. In September 2025, FXRP launched on the Flare mainnet through the over-collateralized cross-chain bridge FAssets. Users must send XRP to a designated agent, and after the Data Connector confirms the transaction on the XRP Ledger, an equivalent Token is minted on the Flare network. These Tokens are backed by stablecoins, ETH, and FLR, and can be redeemed back to the original XRP at any time. Version 1.3, released in May 2026, simplified the minting process to require only a single XRPL payment, enabling regulated custodians such as Hex Trust to connect directly.
As a LayerZero omnichain universal Token, FXRP's cross-network distribution has expanded rapidly. As of October, holdings in DeFi systems outside the Flare mainnet surged from approximately 4 million on July 9 to approximately 20 million, widely distributed across seven blockchains: Ethereum, Base, BNB Chain, Monad, Katana, HyperEVM, and HyperCore. In January 2026, FXRP became the first spot market on the Hyperliquid platform, filling the gap left by the platform previously offering only XRP perpetual contracts. However, this cross-chain expansion presents both benefits and drawbacks for Flare: demand partially flows to chains with more developed credit markets, and FXRP's buying, selling, and lending activities themselves do not generate revenue for Flare, with fees only reflected at the minting stage.
In terms of specific application scenarios, lending business occupies a dominant position. Data compiled by Woofun AI shows that approximately 52% of deployed FXRP is in lending markets, covering Morpho and Kinetic on Flare, Morpho on Ethereum, and the Euler platform on Monad, with holders primarily using it as collateral to obtain cash loans. In Morpho's Sentora RLUSD custody service, 10.6 million FXRP provides collateral support for $7.9 million face value of Ripple RLUSD stablecoin issued at the end of September. Additionally, 39% of FXRP exists in staking form on the Firelight platform, and approximately 8% is used for providing liquidity on decentralized exchanges. This structured capital allocation indicates that FXRP has become deeply embedded in the multi-chain lending ecosystem, but its value capture mechanism still depends on the activity of external protocols rather than direct revenue from Flare's native network.
Flare ecosystem's economic model is facing severe challenges from inflation and burn imbalance. During the FAssets incentive program from July 2025 to July 2026, Flare consumed 2.2 billion FLR, causing the amount of FXRP in DeFi to decline by about 5% after peaking at 142 million in May as rewards ended. Although the FIP.16 proposal passed in April 2025 (with 98.06% support) reduced the annual inflation rate to 3% in May and created the FIRE mechanism to collect protocol revenue and reduce supply, and Data Connector fees have become the fastest-growing source accounting for 45% of total revenue, the gap between revenue and new issuance remains enormous. The hard fork in July 2025 made direct staking weight five times that of delegated staking, driving the proportion of staked FLR from about 32% in April to half. However, at a value of $0.0067 per FLR, annual new issuance totals approximately $18 million, while token burns amount to only about $154,000. DefiLlama points out that only a substantial increase in transaction activity could allow fee revenue to offset inflation.
Flare's most ambitious confidential computing feature has been running on the Songbird testnet since July 2025, aiming to process private data through secure hardware-isolated environments and upload only signed results to the chain. The first application is verifying Hex Trust's USDX stablecoin reserves, where the isolated environment compares public reserve figures with private cash amounts to verify whether the backing ratio reaches 1:1. Although DefiLlama believes it has the potential to develop into a foundational oracle component for handling private data, the system's limitation is that it can only prove the code runs according to inputs, not ensure the authenticity of inputs, as cash information still depends on Hex Trust's disclosure. The initial isolated environment is managed by the Flare Foundation on Google Cloud (GOOGL.US), with future goals including launching confidential computing on the mainnet, providing FBTC services for Bitcoin holders, and releasing FAssets v2, but none of these features have gone live yet. Only when all these projects are fully realized can the final verification of whether Flare's data layer can achieve self-profitability without relying on XRP be obtained.
