An internal memo shows that Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) CEO Satya Nadella has made a new arrangement regarding the head of the company's public affairs.

Microsoft President Brad Smith will take over the company's communications division.

The division was previously overseen by Chief Marketing Officer Takeshi Numoto.

This move means that the company's corporate communications affairs will be coordinated by an executive who has long served as the "public voice" of Microsoft's positions on regulatory, geopolitical, AI governance, and other issues affecting the company's global expansion.

Microsoft's current Chief Communications Officer, Frank Shaw, recently announced that he will leave the company at the end of this year.
