Trump Denies Offering Dimon Fed Chair Role, Threatens to Sue JPMorgan Soon

Deep News01-18

Former US President Donald Trump has launched a scathing attack on JPMorgan Chase and its CEO Jamie Dimon, threatening legal action against the banking giant. He alleges the firm improperly "terminated banking services" for him following the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot.

Trump made the statements in a social media post on Saturday, responding to a media report. The report claimed that several months ago, Trump had suggested Dimon become Federal Reserve Chair in a manner Dimon understood as a "joke."

Trump wrote, "There was never such an offer. In fact, I will be suing Morgan JPMorgan in the next two weeks for wrongfully and prematurely terminating my bank services after the January 6th protests."

Trump did not provide further details on the matter.

Last August, Trump alleged that JPMorgan Chase asked him to close accounts he had held for decades, claiming the bank "discriminated against me quite a bit." Trump believes this move by the bank was related to his supporters storming the Capitol in an attempt to stop the certification of President Joe Biden's 2020 election victory. JPMorgan subsequently stated it had faced scrutiny, investigations, and legal proceedings related to the Trump organization's challenge against the "termination of banking services."

"We agree that no one should have an account closed because of their political or religious beliefs," said JPMorgan spokesperson Trish Wexler in an emailed statement. "We appreciate that this administration has begun to act on politically motivated bank terminations, and we support these efforts."

Earlier this week, Dimon stated he would not consider taking the role of Federal Reserve Chair. Regarding a potential run for Treasury Secretary, he said, "I would answer the phone."
