The Ministry of Education recently announced the filing and approval results for undergraduate programs for the 2025 academic year. Sichuan University has received approval for seven new undergraduate majors: Semiconductor Process and Equipment, Integrated Circuit Design and Integrated Systems, Intelligent Construction, Intelligent Engineering and Creative Design, Cultural Heritage, Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Science and Engineering, and Quantum Information Science. Among these, the Semiconductor Process and Equipment major is a newly added program outside the existing catalog.
These new programs address the rapidly evolving demand for talent in emerging fields, closely align with major national strategies and the development of new quality productive forces, and deeply integrate academic strengths with industrial practice. They cover critical areas such as high-end manufacturing, the chip industry, quantum technology, cultural heritage, and public safety.

Sichuan University's Semiconductor Process and Equipment major is the first of its kind in China. Led by the School of Electronics and Information Engineering, it will begin formal enrollment in 2026. This program serves the nation's major strategic layout for the integrated circuit industry, directly confronting challenges in advanced process nodes and high-end equipment. It deeply integrates disciplines such as electronics and information, physics, materials, and chemistry to build a comprehensive training system covering semiconductor materials, core processes, and key equipment. The program is precisely tailored to meet the development needs for domestic advancement in advanced processes and core equipment, aiming to cultivate high-quality, versatile talent capable of tackling key issues like improving process yields and developing proprietary equipment. This will support technological breakthroughs and high-level self-reliance in China's integrated circuit industry.
The Integrated Circuit Design and Integrated Systems major supports the strategy for independent and controllable chip supply, covering the entire chip industry chain. It aims to create a tripartite training system combining theory, practice, and innovation to cultivate outstanding talent for the chip industry.
The Intelligent Construction major deeply integrates fundamental mechanics in hydraulic and civil engineering, engineering practice, and cutting-edge technologies like artificial intelligence, BIM, and digital twins to train elite professionals for intelligent hydraulic and civil engineering.
The Intelligent Engineering and Creative Design major focuses on smart technology as the core and creative design as the driver, concentrating on cross-disciplinary innovative applications. It aims to cultivate versatile, innovative talent with a solid engineering foundation, outstanding innovation capabilities, and excellent aesthetic literacy.
The Cultural Heritage major focuses on the protection, research, development, and revitalization of both tangible and intangible cultural heritage. It aims to cultivate a new type of senior professional for the cultural and tourism sectors who understands history, knows heritage, masters technology, is proficient in digital methods, and possesses management skills.
The Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Science and Engineering major focuses on the interdisciplinary study of disaster evolution mechanisms and prevention technologies, cultivating talent with expertise in geoscience for disaster prevention and mitigation, thereby filling a gap in professional training in western China.
The Quantum Information Science major focuses on strategic frontiers such as quantum computing, quantum communication, and quantum precision measurement, aiming to cultivate top-notch innovative talent for original innovation and industrial breakthroughs in national quantum technology.
