SK Hynix fell 3% in pre-market trading. On the news front, the HBM competitive landscape has undergone a notable shift. Korean brokerage LS Securities downgraded SK hynix's target price while simultaneously upgrading Samsung Electronics, citing Samsung's strong progress in HBM4 mass production yield — with HBM4 shipment share rising from roughly 5% in Q1 to approximately 35% in Q2.
Industry analysts have also pointed out that SK hynix faces challenges in achieving top HBM4 data rates and has been forced to redesign its base die, resulting in delayed shipments to key platforms. Separately, SK hynix is evaluating Intel Foundry as an alternative base die supplier alongside TSMC to diversify its supply chain and manage rising costs.
The broader semiconductor sector remained under pressure, with Broadcom down 2.92%, Micron Technology down 0.54%, and Intel down 0.04%, reflecting continued weakness across the chip industry.
