Australian Regulator to Publish Review Findings on Big Four Audit Firms Following KPMG Scandal

Deep News10-13

Australia's corporate regulator plans to release some findings from its review of the "Big Four" audit and consulting firms before the end of the year, after a series of scandals battered the industry.

Earlier this year, allegations emerged that KPMG Australia misused confidential client data to win new corporate clients. In response, the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) launched a review into these firms, which also include Deloitte, EY and PwC.

According to an excerpt of a prepared speech, ASIC Chair Sarah Court will say in a speech later on Tuesday that the review focuses on "issues raised in internal complaints, including whistleblower complaints."

She said: "That review is still ongoing, and we intend to share some of the overall findings before the end of the year."

In the latest fallout from the long-running scandal, ANZ Group announced earlier this month that it had dismissed KPMG Australia, ending a 57-year external audit relationship between the two parties.

In addition, Macquarie Group reversed its plan to appoint KPMG as auditor in August; KPMG has also lost clients including Insurance Australia Group Ltd and property giant Lendlease Corp.
