Home Depot announced on Wednesday that it will eliminate approximately 800 corporate positions and require its remaining employees to work from the office five days a week.
A company spokesperson stated that the job cuts affect roles at its store support centers located near Atlanta. A significant portion of the eliminated positions were held by remote workers, with only 150 of the 800 affected employees having been required to work from the support center offices.
"We are streamlining our corporate operations to better support our stores and customers," the spokesperson said. "Our goal is to enhance flexibility, enabling the company to move more swiftly and maintain a closer connection with our frontline associates."
The spokesperson added that Home Depot will provide severance packages and other support resources to the employees impacted by the layoffs.
Effective the week of April 6th, employees who remain with the company will be required to work from Home Depot's corporate headquarters five days a week. Currently, corporate staff are only mandated to be in the office four days a week, from Monday through Thursday.
The home improvement retailer indicated that demand began to slow in the fall of last year, as middle-class consumers scaled back on major home renovation projects.
Home Depot is the latest company to announce workforce reductions in 2026.
On the same Wednesday, Amazon announced plans to cut 16,000 jobs, marking its second major round of layoffs within just a few months. Other companies, from Nike to Expedia, have also recently unveiled their own裁员 plans.
