Oracle (ORCL.US) shares climbed sharply on Thursday, trading over 7% higher at $126.26 as of press time. The rally followed the company's announcement of an expanded partnership with Google Cloud, which will integrate Google's Gemini artificial intelligence (AI) models into Oracle's enterprise application platform.
According to Oracle's statement, the collaboration will allow enterprise customers to access Gemini models through the AI Agent Studio, which is part of the Fusion Applications suite. Additionally, Oracle plans to embed Gemini models into Oracle Fusion Applications and Oracle NetSuite, enhancing built-in AI capabilities across a wider range of use cases.
The move deepens a long-standing relationship between Oracle and Google, which initially focused on cloud infrastructure and has since expanded into the AI space. Notably, Oracle is not limiting its customers to its own proprietary AI models; instead, it is offering Gemini as an additional option within its AI tool ecosystem, providing clients with more diverse model choices.
Analysts view this as a reflection of a broader trend in the enterprise software industry, where platform providers are increasingly integrating multiple large language models (LLMs). This approach allows businesses to flexibly select different AI tools within their existing operational systems, without being locked into a single model provider. As demand for generative AI applications continues to grow among enterprise customers, an open, multi-model AI ecosystem is becoming a key competitive direction in the industry.
