Alibaba Cloud's Wuying team is developing an AI device named QwenBook, positioned as a native intelligent agent computer but resembling more of a "Qwen tablet" in form factor, according to exclusive reporting. The product's design and hardware components are being developed in-house, drawing on the system and cloud-edge capabilities accumulated from past cloud computer projects.
A source within Alibaba Cloud stated that QwenBook is an early-stage experimental product focused on office productivity, currently integrating models including Qwen3.8-Max and Qwen3.8-Flash. The QwenBook team consists of approximately 150 members, with the system team primarily regrouped from the Wuying and Alibaba Cloud OS divisions, while the hardware team has recruited talent from leading smartphone manufacturers.
The project kicked off around April of this year, later than the launch of the first-generation Doubao phone, according to an Alibaba Cloud insider. Additionally, QwenBook is collaborating closely with Kingsoft to integrate WPS, though this development remains in progress.
The team originally intended to showcase a more complete product at the 2026 Yunqi Conference. However, based on current progress, they plan to display a demo version that highlights only select features, primarily illustrating the Qwen tablet's product philosophy rather than the internal full version. The final product is expected to be released by the end of this year or early next year.
Alibaba Cloud (parent company Alibaba Group, NYSE: BABA) has not provided official comments on the timeline, but the demonstration at the upcoming conference will offer a preliminary glimpse into the device's direction.
