A passenger was recently intercepted by Guangzhou Customs at Baiyun International Airport for carrying currency exceeding the legal limit. Authorities discovered $1.645 million, equivalent to over 11 million yuan, which had not been declared.

Customs officers identified an anomaly in the scanned image of a passenger's luggage from an incoming flight. The individual had chosen the "Nothing to Declare" channel. Officers immediately stopped the passenger for further inspection, uncovering large bundles of US dollar cash inside the suitcase.

After counting, the total amount of seized cash was confirmed to be $1.645 million, or more than 11 million yuan.

Customs officials remind the public that, according to relevant laws and regulations, cash is considered a restricted item for import and export. Incoming passengers carrying more than 20,000 yuan in Chinese currency or foreign currency equivalent to over $5,000 must accurately declare it and use the "Declare" channel for clearance.
