Deep News2025-12-23

The Shanghai Municipal Transportation Commission announced the recent commencement of two major highway projects—the Jiasong Road River-Crossing Bridge and its connecting sections, along with the Hushong Expressway upgrade. These infrastructure developments aim to enhance the urban road network and strengthen connectivity between Shanghai's new towns and the city center.

**Jiasong Road River-Crossing Project** Located in Songjiang District, this 1,825-meter project spans from Jinping Road in the north to Songjin Highway in the south. Serving as a vital link between Songjiang and Jinshan new towns, it holds strategic importance for regional integration in the Yangtze River Delta and supports SEAZEN's urban expansion.

The 36.6-meter-wide main bridge features six lanes and dedicated pedestrian/cyclist pathways, marking the Huangpu River's first large-span self-anchored suspension bridge. After achieving deck closure on September 12, cable installation is currently underway.

Upon completion, the project will: - Resolve historical transportation barriers across the Huangpu River - Reduce detours by approximately 30 minutes - Strengthen economic and social ties between Songjiang and Jinshan districts - Optimize southwestern Shanghai's road network

**Hushong Expressway Upgrade** This 22-kilometer northern corridor connects the Jiamin Elevated Road to S32 Highway, passing through multiple districts. The initial 2.6-kilometer phase between Jiamin Interchange and Jiuyi Road prioritizes urgent connectivity needs.

Key benefits include: - Complementing Caobao Road Expressway to form east-west corridors - Enhancing transport links for Hongqiao Hub and Songjiang New Town - Alleviating southwestern entry-point congestion - Supporting the Yangtze River Delta integration strategy

These projects collectively advance Shanghai's "Five New Town" spatial development framework while upgrading critical transportation infrastructure.
