On July 20th, the A-share market experienced volatile consolidation, initially surging before retreating in the morning session, followed by a decline in the afternoon. A late-session rally saw the STAR 50 Index and the ChiNext Index reverse losses to close in positive territory.
At the close, the Shanghai Composite Index was up 0.85% at 3796.28 points, while the Shenzhen Component Index fell 0.71% to 13610.23 points. The ChiNext Index gained 0.42% to 3443.10 points, and the BSE 50 Index declined 2.9% to 1045.20 points. More than 3,700 stocks across the broader market closed lower. The combined turnover for the Shanghai and Shenzhen markets was 2718.1 billion yuan, an increase of 46.5 billion yuan from the previous session.
Sector Performance
In terms of sector performance, oil and gas extraction, coal mining and processing, and baijiu (distilled spirits) led the gains. Electronic chemicals, electronic components, and memory chips were among the biggest decliners.
Market Movers
Oil and gas extraction services saw significant strength. Zhongman Petroleum (SHSE: 603619), Bomesc Offshore (SHSE: 603727), and CNOOC Ltd (SHSE: 600938) hit their daily upside limits. Kelitronic (SZSE: 300260) surged over 20%, Tongyuan Petroleum (SZSE: 300164) rose more than 15%, and Poten Environment Group (SZSE: 300191) gained over 10%.
The coal sector also moved higher amid volatility. Zhengzhou Coal & Electric Power (SHSE: 600121), Yankuang Energy (SHSE: 600188), Dayou Energy (SHSE: 600403), Huadian Energy (SHSE: 600726), Huaibei Mining (SHSE: 600985), Jinneng Holding Shanxi Coal Industry (SHSE: 601001), and China Coal Energy (SHSE: 601898) all reached their daily limit-up prices.
The baijiu sector advanced with fluctuations. Gujing Distillery (SZSE: 000596) hit the daily limit, while Kweichow Moutai (SHSE: 600519) rose nearly 6%. Jinhuiqu (SHSE: 603919), Luzhou Laojiao (SZSE: 000568), Yingjia Distillery (SHSE: 603198), and Shanxi Xinghuacun Fen Wine Factory (SHSE: 600809) also followed with gains.
The electronic chemicals sector continued to weaken. Guanghua Sci-Tech (SZSE: 002741), Hongchang Electronic Materials (SHSE: 603002), Jianghua Microelectronics (SHSE: 603078), Honghe Technology (SHSE: 603256), Fangbang Electronics (SHSE: 688020), Haixing New Material (SHSE: 603115), GreenDeal (SZSE: 002968), Sanfu New Materials (SHSE: 688359), CSSC Special Gas (SZSE: 300146), and Jade Bird Fire (SZSE: 002960) all touched their daily downside limits. Fivota Technology (SZSE: 301371), Zhongju Advanced Materials (SHSE: 688549), and Xingfu Electronics (SHSE: 603928) fell over 15%. Sinocera Advanced Materials (SZSE: 300285), Nanda Optoelectronic (SZSE: 300346), Feikai Materials (SZSE: 300398), and Longchen Technology (SZSE: 300836) dropped more than 10%.
The electronic components sector opened higher but closed lower. Fenghua Advanced Technology (SZSE: 000636), Tianjin Prolinx (SZSE: 002134), Sunlord Electronics (SZSE: 002138), and nearly 20 other stocks hit their daily limit-down prices. Nanya New Material (SHSE: 688519) plunged over 15%. Microgate Technology (SZSE: 300319), Sihui Fusheng (SZSE: 300672), Zhongying Technology (SZSE: 300936), Shengyi Electronics (SHSE: 688183), Zhongfu Circuits (SZSE: 300814), Benchuang Intelligent (SZSE: 300964), Mankun Technology (SZSE: 301132), Jinlu Electronics (SZSE: 301282), Yibo Technology (SZSE: 301366), and Dali Kaipu (SZSE: 301566) all declined more than 10%.
The memory chip sector weakened with volatility. Deming Electronics (SZSE: 002384), Bomin Electronics (SHSE: 603936), Baicheng Construction (SHSE: 601133), Yoke Technology (SZSE: 002409), and nearly 20 other stocks fell by their daily limit.
