At the 18th Xuanyuan Automotive Bluebook Forum held from May 15th to 17th in Guangzhou, themed "Turning Point," He Xiaopeng, Chairman and CEO of XPeng Inc. (XPEV), shared his insights. He stated that the past decade has witnessed two significant transformations in China's new energy vehicle sector: a shift from fossil fuels to new electrochemical energy, and an initial entry into the intelligent phase. "Ten years ago, no one believed Chinese automobiles could achieve such global success and begin internationalization," he remarked.
In his view, the coming decade will be defined by the convergence of two new energy sources. The previously defined new energy will continue to evolve, while another new energy—data energy—will emerge.
He Xiaopeng candidly noted that, in reality, most companies, including XPeng, only realized last year that data is the crucial new fuel for the next generation of vehicles, with chips and models serving as the new engines. "In other words, two types of engines will converge in the automotive transformation of the new decade. Cars will evolve from purely physical-world new energy vehicles to dual new energy vehicles of the physical world plus the digital world. To put it simply: the capabilities of automobiles and robots will undergo significant changes and integration over this decade."
Addressing the company's name change to XPeng Group, he pointed out that this shift in perspective was precisely the reason behind it. The previous motto was "Advance Steadily for Long-term Success," now updated to "Steady Progress, Breakthrough Solutions."
"We believe that in this decade, it is not only essential to advance steadily and achieve high-quality development but also crucial to have the courage to break through established patterns. I joked with internal colleagues and friends: when we no longer see 150 new car models at the Beijing and Shanghai auto shows, the intense competition in China's auto industry might finally ease," he added.
