Toyota Recalls Nearly 16,000 Vehicles in China Due to Black Screen at Startup Preventing Defrosting, Posing Safety Risk

On January 23, the State Administration for Market Regulation issued an announcement titled "FAW Toyota Motor (Chengdu) Co., Ltd. Changchung Fengyue Branch and GAC Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. Recall Some Vehicles."

According to the announcement, FAW Toyota Motor (Chengdu) Co., Ltd. Changchung Fengyue Branch (authorized by FAW Toyota Motor (Chengdu) Co., Ltd.) and GAC Toyota Motor Co., Ltd., in accordance with the requirements of the "Regulations on the Administration of Recall of Defective Automobile Products" and the "Implementation Measures for the Regulations on the Administration of Recall of Defective Automobile Products," have filed a recall plan with the State Administration for Market Regulation. I. FAW Toyota Motor (Chengdu) Co., Ltd. Changchung Fengyue Branch Recall Number S2026M0013V: Effective from January 23, 2026, a total of 10,922 RAV4 vehicles produced between December 5, 2025, and January 13, 2026, are being recalled. II. GAC Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. Recall Number S2026M0014V: Effective from January 23, 2026, a total of 5,056 Wildlander vehicles produced between December 11, 2025, and January 12, 2026, are being recalled. The vehicles within the scope of this recall may experience a black screen upon startup that cannot be recovered due to improper settings in the multimedia screen system control program, resulting in the inability to operate the defrosting and defogging functions. In extreme cases, this may affect the driver's visibility, posing a safety hazard. FAW Toyota Motor (Chengdu) Co., Ltd. Changchung Fengyue Branch and GAC Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. will provide free upgrades to the multimedia screen system control program for the affected vehicles to eliminate the safety hazard. FAW Toyota Motor (Chengdu) Co., Ltd. Changchung Fengyue Branch and GAC Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. will notify relevant owners of this recall via registered mail and other methods.
