A response from Xiaomi regarding a SU7 fire in Yingkou clarifies: the incident was caused by an ignition source left inside the vehicle setting fire to surrounding combustible materials.

An official clarification has been issued concerning the Xiaomi SU7.

On February 4th, a spokesperson for Xiaomi Corporation released a statement via Weibo addressing the recent vehicle fire incident involving a Xiaomi SU7 in Yingkou, Liaoning province.

The Xiaomi spokesperson stated that on February 1st, smoke and fire emerged from the driver's seat area of a Xiaomi SU7 in Yingkou City, Liaoning Province. The fire was promptly extinguished by fire and rescue services who arrived on the scene, and no injuries were reported.

Following communication with the vehicle owner, who has now received the official incident report, the company confirmed the accident resulted from an ignition source left inside the car which ignited nearby combustible materials, and was not caused by any issue with the vehicle itself. The so-called "fireworks" effect seen in online videos was attributed to the deployment of the vehicle's airbags triggered by the fire, and is unrelated to the battery or other components. The Xiaomi spokesperson also mentioned that the company will assist the customer in properly handling subsequent matters, urging the public not to believe or spread rumors.

In reaction to this official rebuttal, some netizens commented, "An investigation is needed to determine if it was intentional or accidental," and "Hopefully, it can be clarified whether this was a malicious act."

Recently, a video circulated online showing a Xiaomi SU7 in Liaoning's Yingkou bursting into flames after charging, with thick smoke billowing and explosive sparks visible. The widely shared footage attracted significant market attention.

Reports indicate the vehicle was a rental car. The incident occurred shortly after the car had finished charging and left the charging spot. The vehicle caught fire, and firefighters arrived promptly to handle the situation professionally; no casualties resulted from the accident. Several minutes after the initial smoke, open flames appeared, eventually engulfing the entire driver's cabin, accompanied by sparks and explosions suspected to be from the ignition of airbag inflators.

The Xiaomi spokesperson has issued multiple statements recently concerning various fire-related incidents.

On January 20th, the spokesperson addressed a fire that occurred on January 19th at an auto repair shop in Haikou, Hainan. Xiaomi stated that, up until the vehicle's offline data transmission ceased, the power battery was operating normally. The fire was subsequently extinguished by the fire department, and no injuries occurred.

Around the same time, a Xiaomi YU7 was involved in an unexpected traffic accident on the S83 Lan-Nan Expressway in Kaifeng, Henan. Xiaomi reported that after the collision, which caused damage to the front of the vehicle, the driver pulled over safely onto the emergency lane, and the occupants evacuated promptly with no injuries. Data indicated that both the power battery and the auxiliary battery were functioning within normal parameters up until the vehicle went offline at 16:14. A fire with open flames later erupted at the scene and was extinguished by the fire department.

Furthermore, in November 2025, the Xiaomi spokesperson issued a clarification statement refuting rumors of a "fire on the battery production line inside the Xiaomi automobile factory." The company explained that in 2024, during debugging and optimization of production equipment in the battery workshop, an operator error in manual mode caused a battery pack being transported by an AGV to bump against equipment, scratching the battery cells and leading to a short circuit that caused a minor fire. The workshop immediately activated its emergency response protocol, quickly containing the fire which did not spread to other production areas and resulted in no injuries.

Xiaomi emphasized that this was an anomaly during production process debugging and not indicative of any inherent design flaws, material issues, or manufacturing defects in the batteries themselves. The company asserted that all battery packs for Xiaomi vehicles are developed to exceptionally high standards, and that the batteries for both the SU7 and YU7 models comply with relevant national standards, reassuring owners.

According to the official Xiaomi Auto Weibo account, the company delivered over 39,000 vehicles in January 2026.
