EU States Apple Failed to Meet Interoperability Demands, But Does Not Bar New Product Launches

The European Commission has communicated with Apple regarding its Siri AI technology, but the company was unable to develop an interoperability solution that meets the stipulated requirements, a Commission spokesperson stated at a daily press briefing in Brussels.

Thomas Regnier noted that Apple had sought an exemption of at least 18 months from the interoperability rules under the EU's Digital Markets Act.

The Commission rejected this request, describing EU law as "non-negotiable."

He added that the Digital Markets Act does not prohibit Apple from introducing new products.

"However, like other 'gatekeepers,' what Apple is not permitted to do is close off the market," he said.
