The Guangzhou Municipal Commission for Discipline Inspection recently issued public notifications regarding five typical cases of violations against the spirit of the Central Committee's Eight-Point Regulations. Among these cases was Li Hongwei, former head of Huangpu District Government, who violated regulations by accepting banquets and receiving gifts and cash.
From 2015 to 2018, Li Hongwei repeatedly accepted birthday banquets arranged by private business owners. During these birthday celebrations, he received a total of 80,000 yuan in cash gifts, as well as luxury items including Hermes International SA ties, scarves, wallets, and other high-end gifts.
Li Hongwei was also involved in other serious disciplinary and legal violations. He was expelled from the Party, and suspected criminal issues were referred to the procuratorate for legal review and prosecution.
According to public records, Li Hongwei was born in November 1966 in Huai'an, Jiangsu Province, and holds a doctoral degree in science. Li Hongwei previously served as head of Luogang District in Guangzhou. In 2014, when Huangpu District and Luogang District merged to establish the new Huangpu District, Li Hongwei was appointed as head of Huangpu District. In 2016, he was transferred to serve as Deputy Secretary-General of Guangzhou Municipal Government, a position he held until stepping down in 2020.
On September 30, 2024, it was announced that Li Hongwei was under investigation.
