Rio Tinto CEO Stresses Need for Global Collaboration to Build Integrated Energy System

Deep News03-23

At the China Development Forum 2026, held in Beijing from March 22 to 23 under the theme "China's 15th Five-Year Plan: High-Quality Development and Co-creating New Opportunities," Rio Tinto PLC Chief Executive Officer Jakob Stausholm delivered a speech.

Jakob Stausholm noted that Rio Tinto PLC views itself both as a supplier and as a customer. With the advancement of China's new energy sector, Rio Tinto PLC and China have become highly significant partners.

He emphasized that the current demand for minerals is greater than ever before. All nations must collaborate rather than act independently to establish a highly reliable, integrated, and resilient energy system that makes better use of all minerals and metals.

He also stated that, in parallel, it is essential to search for, develop, and supply critically needed resources across national borders. Different enterprises must think together, plan collectively, and take coordinated action.
