Algonquin Power & Utilities Corp. (AQN) experienced a significant pre-market plunge of 5.23% on Friday. The sharp decline followed the company's release of its fourth quarter and full-year 2025 financial results.
The drop appears to be driven by investor disappointment with the company's updated financial outlook. While Algonquin reaffirmed its 2026 adjusted net earnings per share estimate, it revised its 2027 outlook downward. The company now expects its 2027 adjusted net EPS to be in the range of $0.38 to $0.42, a reduction of slightly more than $0.03 per share compared to its previous estimate. Management cited a higher anticipated effective tax rate and extended timing for gas operational excellence activities as the primary reasons for the lowered guidance.
