Meta Platforms has finalized the acquisition of robotics artificial intelligence startup Assured Robot Intelligence to expedite its research and development in humanoid robot technology. The transaction was completed on May 1, with specific financial details remaining undisclosed.
Assured Robot Intelligence specializes in developing AI models for robots, with technology designed to enable robots to comprehend, predict, and adapt to human behavior in complex, dynamic environments. A Meta spokesperson described the startup as being "at the forefront of robotic intelligence."
This acquisition coincides with Meta's increased investments in the humanoid robotics sector, where robots are designed to move like humans and assist with physical tasks. The Assured Robot Intelligence team will join Meta's Superintelligence Lab research unit and collaborate closely with the Meta Robotics Studio, established in 2025, to develop foundational technologies for humanoid robots.
Company co-founders Lerrel Pinto and Xiaolong Wang will also join Meta. Wang previously served as a researcher at NVIDIA, while Pinto co-founded Fauna Robotics, which was acquired by Amazon in March to support its humanoid robotics project.
Meta's robotics team is currently developing internal humanoid robot hardware and underlying AI systems, including sensor and software technologies. These technologies may eventually be made available to other companies in the industry. Tech giants including Tesla, Alphabet, and Amazon are also actively expanding their presence in the humanoid robotics field, intensifying competition within the sector.
