On the afternoon of May 12th Eastern Time, former President Donald Trump boarded Air Force One to commence his visit to China. While still airborne, he posted on Truth Social, stating, "It is my honor to be traveling to Great China with so many distinguished individuals."
According to U.S. media reports, the White House released a list of business leaders accompanying Trump on this visit. A total of 16 U.S. business representatives are set to arrive in Beijing, representing American companies across sectors including technology, finance, aviation, and agriculture. In the technology sector, the delegation includes Tesla CEO Elon Musk, Apple CEO Tim Cook, and leaders from semiconductor firms such as Qualcomm and Micron. The financial sector is represented by executives from Wall Street giants like Citigroup, Goldman Sachs, and Blackstone. Additionally, Boeing and Cargill represent the aviation and agriculture sectors, respectively.
Notably,
On Truth Social, Trump refuted a CNBC report suggesting Huang was not invited to this gathering of top global business leaders. He stated, "In fact, Jensen Huang is on Air Force One with me right now, and unless I ask him to leave—which is highly unlikely—CNBC's report is misinformation. In political terms, that's FAKE NEWS!"
Reports indicate that Huang has long lobbied the U.S. government to relax export controls on AI chips to China. Last year, he successfully urged the White House to approve sales of the H200 chip. Therefore, his participation carries significant symbolic weight.
Trump also expressed his hope that the accompanying business leaders would "make a big impact" and help support China's advancement to a higher level of development.
