Institutional Report: Samsung Electronics Recaptures DRAM Crown as Micron Technology Poised to Challenge SK hynix

Deep News08-04 13:01

According to Counterpoint Research, Micron Technology is positioned to overtake SK hynix as the world's second-largest DRAM supplier, with its revenue having surged roughly fourfold since the second quarter of 2025.

The research firm stated that Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. reclaimed the top spot in the second quarter of 2026 with a 39% market share, fueled by strong pricing for traditional DRAM, which is expected to support profitability in the current quarter.

Counterpoint added that SK hynix's share dropped to 26% in the second quarter from 39% a year earlier, pressured by lower HBM pricing and early long-term supply agreements.

China's ChangXin Memory Technologies is currently the fastest-growing DRAM supplier, holding a 7% market share. The company plans to use proceeds from its recent IPO to expand production of HBM and other advanced memory chips.
