Joint Maritime Enforcement Operation Ensures Smooth Navigation in Xiamen Port

Deep News09-15

"We are enforcement officers from Xiamen Transportation Bureau. This is a navigational waterway where net fishing is prohibited. Please leave immediately," enforcement personnel recently warned a fishing vessel that had entered the main shipping channel through loudspeakers.

During the current peak fishing season, some fishing boats have been occupying Xiamen Port's main shipping channels, preventing large commercial vessels from entering the port smoothly and affecting both port operational efficiency and maritime navigation safety.

To effectively address this issue, the Xiamen Transportation Bureau enforcement team proactively coordinated with maritime departments from both Xiamen and Zhangzhou regions to conduct joint maritime enforcement operations.

During enforcement activities, officers utilized the Automatic Identification System (AIS), channel monitoring, and terminal surveillance equipment to conduct real-time monitoring of fishing vessel movements, precisely locating vessels obstructing navigation and using loudspeakers to issue departure warnings to ships entering the main channels.

For fishing vessels that ignored warnings and continued net fishing in the channels, enforcement officers imposed administrative penalties on the involved fishermen in accordance with relevant provisions of the Maritime Navigation Law of the People's Republic of China. Simultaneously, they conducted legal education campaigns and informed fishermen about the dangers of operating within shipping channels.

While some fishermen initially showed resistance to enforcement efforts, they eventually expressed understanding and actively cooperated after patient communication from enforcement personnel.

This joint enforcement operation integrated resources from various parties to form unified enforcement capabilities, effectively ensuring safe and smooth navigation in Xiamen Port channels and creating a favorable maritime traffic environment for vessel navigation.
