NVIDIA's CEO Jensen Huang has reportedly accepted an invitation to join the Advisory Committee of the School of Economics and Management at Tsinghua University. While not yet officially announced, sources indicate Huang has confirmed the appointment.
The Advisory Committee, established in October 2000, aims to strengthen the school's connections with the global community and enhance its research and teaching standards to become a world-class institution. The committee is chaired by Apple CEO Tim Cook, who has held the position since 2019. Its 65 members include leaders from major international corporations, deans of top business schools, and Nobel laureates in economics. Notable members include Elon Musk, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, Meta's Mark Zuckerberg, JPMorgan Chase's Jamie Dimon, BlackRock's Larry Fink, and Citigroup's Jane Fraser. Chinese tech leaders such as Jack Ma, Pony Ma, and Robin Li are also part of the committee.
The committee typically holds an annual meeting in Beijing to discuss the school's international strategy and long-term development. Members also deliver lectures to students. This body is often considered the Chinese counterpart to the Harvard Business School Dean's Advisory Board.
This move adds to Huang's recent academic engagements. In early May, he received an honorary doctorate in Science and Technology from Carnegie Mellon University, his seventh such honor. During the commencement ceremony, he delivered a widely quoted remark: "AI won't replace you, but people who use AI will."
Huang, born in 1963, holds a master's degree in electrical engineering from Stanford University, which he earned in 1990 after working at companies like AMD and LSI Logic. His recent academic activities mark a new chapter in his career, long after his formal education concluded.
Beyond his professional and academic pursuits, Huang recently gained attention for a lighthearted incident at a night market, where he humorously attempted to jump a queue by offering to pay for everyone's food.
