A "single leaf boat" stands by the river, with "layered light" shimmering at night. The new "urban living room" along the Nanjing riverside scenic belt in the Gulou section is set to debut, as the Shangyuanmen Observation Platform has largely been completed and is now in its final stages. It will officially open to the public soon.
The Shangyuanmen Observation Platform, located along the riverside scenic belt at the northern end of Central North Road in Nanjing, begins at the intersection of Yanjiang Road and Yongji Avenue. It sits adjacent to Exit 3 of Shangyuanmen Station on Metro Line 3, stretching approximately 213 meters in length, with a maximum height of 14.5 meters and a river-facing width of 90.9 meters.
As a key municipal project implementing the "Nine Major Urban Living Rooms" plan for both banks of the Yangtze River, the completed platform will connect seamlessly with the Wumadu area via riverside pathways, providing residents with a leisurely waterfront space to enjoy.
The Shangyuanmen Observation Platform opens expansively toward the Yangtze River, echoing key urban landmarks across the water, including the Jiangbei New Area on the opposite bank, the Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge to the west, Mufu Mountain to the east, and Baguazhou. It serves as a vital component of the southern city's green corridor. Upon completion, it will create a north-south visual link, facilitating better connectivity between different urban functions north and south.
The project features six access points for visitor convenience. At the end of the platform, visitors can descend steps to the riverside greenway, feeling the gentle river breeze. The project will also include a "first-class service station" with corresponding amenities, offering rest spaces for the public and enhancing the comfort of the walking and sightseeing experience.
As a convergence point for the three major industries of the Shangyuanmen area—commercial trade, technological innovation, and cultural tourism—the Shangyuanmen Urban Living Room will form a creative corridor integrating high-end design, creativity, and cultural arts exhibition, injecting new vitality into Nanjing's urban development.
A corridor embracing the river, a city showcasing its scenery. The Shangyuanmen Observation Platform is not only a new landmark for viewing the beauty of the Yangtze River but also a vivid practice of Nanjing's efforts to optimize its riverside spaces and create a livable urban living room. Nanjing will continue to enhance the quality of its riverside scenic belt, ensuring the interconnection of urban greenways and riverside landscapes, building a southern green corridor, and forming a green and cultural ecological landscape line for the city, better meeting the people's aspirations for a better life.
