Recently, the Office of the Provincial Association for Science and Technology issued the "Notice on Recognizing the 2026 Hubei Province Science and Technology Backyards," and the Hubei Xishui County Hilly Smart Agriculture Science and Technology Backyard was successfully approved, making it the only newly selected emerging-format science and technology backyard in Huanggang City.
Xishui County Hilly Smart Agriculture Science and Technology Backyard
The Xishui County Hilly Smart Agriculture Science and Technology Backyard is built on the basis of the Xishui County Changfu Rice Professional Cooperative. Founded in July 2009, the Xishui County Changfu Rice Professional Cooperative is a full-industry-chain modern agricultural comprehensive service-oriented professional cooperative focused mainly on rice products and integrating green planting, ecological breeding, rice processing, warehousing and logistics, online and offline sales, and rice research and development. The cooperative currently has a land service area of 30,000 mu, of which 12,000 mu is land contributed as shares or leased, radiating across 6 townships and 45 villages throughout the county, driving more than 7,000 farming households, 60 various agricultural and farmers' cooperatives, and 10 family farms. Since its establishment, the cooperative has adapted measures to local conditions and innovated demonstrations, initially exploring the ecological circular development "Changfu Model" for agricultural production, planting, and large-scale operation and management in vast rural hilly areas under the new situation, solving the difficulties of rural agricultural production and large-scale operation and management under the new situation. The cooperative and its person in charge have successively been awarded "National Farmer Cooperative Demonstration Cooperative," "National Agricultural Labor Model," "National Advanced Collective of the Supply and Marketing Cooperative System," "Top Ten Brands in China's Health Industry," "Hubei Province Creditworthy and Contract-Honoring Enterprise," and "Hubei Province Agricultural Industrialization Key Leading Enterprise," among others.
Precise Service, Acting as a "Science and Technology Matchmaker"
During the application period for the Hubei Province Science and Technology Backyard, the county Association for Science and Technology took the initiative to step forward and provide precise services, acting as a "science and technology matchmaker" for school-locality and school-enterprise cooperation. Through on-site research to clarify the industrial baseline, it actively connected with university research forces, guided the enterprise throughout the process in sorting application materials and optimizing the construction plan, filled in weak links in the application, and helped the backyard be successfully selected. This move further enriched the county's science and technology backyard matrix and filled the gap in scientific and technological innovation platforms in the smart agriculture field. Next, the county Association for Science and Technology will guide the backyard to base itself on the resource endowments of the Dabie Mountains' hilly and mountainous areas and carry out technical research around key directions such as intelligent agricultural machinery for hilly and mountainous areas, aerospace-ground agricultural condition monitoring, and digital farmland management and control. It will continue to deepen industry-university-research integration, build research positions in the fields, solidly advance new technology trials and demonstrations, local talent cultivation, and agricultural science popularization, solve prominent problems such as the fragmentation of hilly farmland and the difficulty of advancing mechanization, create a demonstration model for hilly smart agriculture, and empower the county-strengthening project and comprehensive rural revitalization with the new quality productive forces of digital agriculture.
