Postal-Savings Bank Staff Foil 50,000 Yuan "Childcare Reserve" Scam

Deep News10-15 21:01

An expectant mother named Ms. Zhao walked into the Xianguan branch of the Shuyang County Postal Savings Bank and asked to withdraw 50,000 yuan from a 100,000 yuan fixed deposit receipt into her bank card, while also requesting that her card's daily limit be raised to 50,000 yuan.

Teller Gao Cheng followed standard procedure and asked about the purpose of the limit adjustment, then reviewed the card's transaction history, discovering that 15 quick-payment transactions of 2,455 yuan each had occurred on the night of October 7, all paid to a "construction company."

Senior teller Xu Ying and wealth manager Liu Min joined the inquiry, and it emerged that Ms. Zhao had been buying gold through a link sent by a WeChat "friend."

Professional instinct immediately told the staff this was a classic telecommunications fraud scheme, so they promptly restricted her non-counter banking services, successfully preventing the loss of funds, and helped her contact the police.

It turned out that with her due date approaching, Ms. Zhao planned to buy gold for her soon-to-be-born baby as both a keepsake and a store of value, so she searched WeChat for keywords such as "buying gold" and connected with an online acquaintance, making multiple gold purchases through links shared by this "friend."

At the postal staff's urging, Ms. Zhao tried to contact her WeChat "friend" again and found she had been blocked, while all 15 gold-purchase order links had vanished; only then did she realize she had fallen into a scammer's trap.

Fortunately, with the help of the postal staff, the 50,000 yuan "childcare reserve" was successfully intercepted.
