Shanghai's foreign trade grew by double digits in the first three quarters, with exports in September reaching a record high and ASEAN holding its position as Shanghai's largest trading partner for five consecutive months, as regional industrial chain cooperation continues to deepen.
According to data from the Shanghai Bureau of Statistics, the city's total goods import and export value reached 3.94 trillion yuan in the first three quarters, up 17.9% year on year. Exports rose 22.3%, an increase of 2.2 percentage points over the first half of the year. Exports of high-tech products grew 33.0%, accounting for 28.7% of total goods export value.
By category, exports of integrated circuits and medical instruments rose 29.8% and 18.3% respectively. At a briefing held on October 23, Li Jirong, director of the Statistical Analysis Division of Shanghai Customs, said that Shanghai's exports have maintained a positive trend this year, with monthly year-on-year export growth in double digits throughout the first three quarters, and September exports hitting a record high. This was mainly driven by multiple advantages including high-end manufacturing, diversified markets and the city's role as a port hub.
