Nuclear Power Stocks Extend Gains Before Noon; CNNC International Surges Nearly 12% on Microsoft-NVIDIA AI Partnership in Nuclear Energy

Stock News11:46

Nuclear power concept stocks saw their gains widen before noon. At the time of writing, CNNC International (02302) rose 9.61% to HK$6.50, CGN Power (01816) increased 5.08% to HK$3.72, and CGN Mining (01164) advanced 4.57% to HK$3.89. The movement follows an announcement that Microsoft and NVIDIA are collaborating to advance the "AI for nuclear" initiative, which aims to use artificial intelligence tools to accelerate the construction and operation of nuclear power plants. This effort is intended to address the surging energy demands driven by the rapid expansion of the AI industry. Microsoft Vice Chair and President Brad Smith publicly announced the partnership at the CERAWeek energy conference on Tuesday, stating that the two companies have developed a comprehensive solution expected to play a significant role in promoting the expansion of nuclear power. China Merchants Securities noted that the contract-for-difference models in Liaoning and Guangxi provide a safeguard mechanism for nuclear power, allowing the majority of nuclear electricity to be settled at approved prices. To prevent nuclear power profitability from being overly affected by market fluctuations, other provinces are also expected to introduce similar electricity price protection mechanisms, thereby ensuring the safe and stable operation of nuclear power. The profit stability of nuclear power companies is set to strengthen further, and with the high growth potential from the successive commissioning of new nuclear units, a reevaluation of nuclear power company valuations is anticipated.
