Tech Giants Launch Massive Intern Recruitment Drives with Premium Pay

The competition for AI talent among major internet companies intensified in 2026. On March 6, ByteDance announced the launch of its "Bytelntern" internship program targeting the class of 2027, offering over 7,000 positions for conversion to full-time roles. This marks the company's largest-ever recruitment drive for interns eligible for permanent positions.

On the same day, TENCENT officially initiated its "2026 Internship Recruitment" program, planning to hire more than 10,000 interns globally. Positions span technical, design, and product categories, targeting university students graduating between September 2026 and December 2027. TENCENT revealed a 36% increase in technical roles, a 39% expansion in product positions, and significant growth in AI-related openings.

The "Bytelntern" program specifically targets 2027 graduates, offering roles in AI engineering, AI product management, and general product positions. Research and development roles account for over 4,800 offers, the highest number in company history. AI-related positions show strong demand, with AI engineering and product roles becoming recruitment priorities. Product positions constitute 40% of non-R&D openings.

ByteDance stated the program maintains a conversion rate exceeding 50%, meaning at least one in two interns successfully transitions to full-time employment. Compensation reaches 500 yuan per day for product and R&D roles, with other positions offering daily rates between 100-400 yuan.

This recruitment surge reflects growing demand for AI professionals in the internet sector. Investigations on February 5 revealed Alibaba offering annual salaries up to 1.28 million yuan for algorithm engineers, while TENCENT's user operation positions exceeded 750,000 yuan. ByteDance's AI product manager roles reached 600,000 yuan, with AI application engineers approaching 1 million yuan annually.

Industry data shows multiple major companies implemented salary increases throughout 2025. JD.com increased year-end bonus allocations by over 70% year-over-year, while ByteDance raised bonus expenditures by 35% and salary adjustment investments by 150%.

During ByteDance's all-hands meeting on January 29, CEO Liang Rubo established "Scaling New Heights" as the 2026 corporate theme. He emphasized that achieving this goal requires increasing talent density through enhanced incentives. Liang noted that employees joining ByteDance at earlier career stages typically experience accelerated professional development.
