Defense Ministry Spokesperson Questions the Notion of a Taiwan Defense Budget

Deep News04-17

A journalist inquired: Recently, members of the US Congress have visited the Taiwan region of China and urged the local authorities to swiftly pass a "special defense budget," to which Lai Ching-te expressed gratitude and promoted US-Taiwan military cooperation. How do you comment on this?

Defense Ministry Spokesperson Senior Colonel Zhang Xiaogang responded: Taiwan is part of China, so how can there be a "defense budget"? Lai Ching-te, for his personal gain of seeking "independence," is using the hard-earned money of Taiwanese people to curry favor with the United States. This is purely an act of betraying, endangering, and destroying Taiwan, accelerating the region towards the perils of war. Some individuals in the US are exploiting Taiwan to the bone, showing no concern for its actual security; their true interest lies in making more money, even at the risk of profiting from war.

The authorities in Taiwan are warned that "relying on the US to seek independence" will not bring security, and "using force to resist unification" is digging their own grave. The US is urged to immediately cease all forms of military contact with the Taiwan region of China, stop sending wrong signals to "Taiwan independence" separatist forces, and halt actions that undermine peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.
