According to a July 31 report from local police in Langzhong City, Sichuan, authorities have cracked a home burglary case where a recently released convict wasted no time in reoffending. The suspect, a man surnamed Yan, stole a gold necklace just one week after his release from prison, sold it for over 8,000 yuan, and spent every yuan on tipping female livestreamers.
Police revealed that Yan was released on June 30 after serving his sentence for a previous theft. However, failing to learn from his past mistakes, he began planning another crime just seven days later. On the morning of July 6, Yan wandered to Baixi Village in Jiangnan Street, Langzhong, where he spotted a locked gate at a villager's home. Believing no one was inside, he climbed over the wall, found the key to the house, and slipped in to steal a gold necklace.
After the theft, Yan quickly sold the necklace for 8,456 yuan. In a striking turn, he used all the proceeds to tip online streamers, spending the remaining cash on daily expenses, with no effort toward legitimate work. Police investigators, through diligent tracking and evidence collection, soon identified Yan as the suspect and arrested him.
Investigations showed that Yan has a long history of theft convictions, with no signs of reform. This latest offense came just a week after his release, marking a quick return to illegal activity. Police issued a warning, stating that under China's criminal law, breaking into a home to steal constitutes a criminal act. With a prior criminal record and rapid reoffending, courts will impose harsher sentences during sentencing. They urged the public not to gamble with the law's limits, as seeking easy money through crime will only lead back to prison.
