China Traditional Chinese Medicine (China TCM) wins NMPA nod for two ancient-formula granules

Bulletin Express05-11

China Traditional Chinese Medicine Holdings Co. Limited (China TCM) has obtained formal marketing approval from the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) for two Category 3.1 traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) compound preparations: Shaoyao Gancao Tang Granules and Taohe Chengqi Tang Granules.

The products were developed by the Group’s subsidiaries—Sinopharm Group Guangdong Medi-World Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. and Guangdong Yifang Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd.—under the regulatory pathway for ancient classic formulae.

Key product profiles 1. Shaoyao Gancao Tang Granules • Classical source: Treatise on Cold Pathogenic Diseases (Eastern Han Dynasty). • Modern studies: Demonstrated efficacy in neck and lower-back pain, gastrointestinal disorders, neurological and skin conditions.

2. Taohe Chengqi Tang Granules • Classical source: Treatise on Cold Pathogenic Diseases. • Modern studies: Exhibits anti-inflammatory, anti-thrombotic, neuro-protective and immune-regulating properties, supporting use in acute pelvic inflammatory disease, intestinal obstruction, type 2 diabetes mellitus and chronic prostatitis.

R&D and manufacturing approach The Group applied its “restoring a bowl of decoction” concept, implementing end-to-end quality control—from raw herb selection and decoction-piece processing to extraction and formulation. Modern pharmaceutical technologies were employed to maximise preservation of active components while converting the traditional decoctions into patient-friendly granule forms.

Strategic outlook Management indicated that the approvals validate the Group’s efforts to modernise classical TCM formulas and enhance clinical accessibility. China TCM plans to continue expanding its classical-formula pipeline, accelerate registration of innovative TCM products and pursue broader clinical adoption.
