During a media dialogue following the YU7 GT Xiaomi Human-Vehicle-Home Full Ecosystem new product launch event, Xiaomi Group Chairman and CEO Lei Jun, along with Xiaomi Group Vice President and Automotive CTO Hu Zhengnan, Xiaomi Automotive Vice President Song Gang, and Xiaomi Automotive Chief Test Driver Ren Zhoucan, addressed questions from the press.
When asked about Xiaomi Automotive's persistent focus on setting lap records at the Nürburgring, Hu Zhengnan, Vice President of Xiaomi Group and CTO of the Automotive Division, clarified that going to the Nürburgring is not about proving anything specific; it is a methodology rather than an end goal. He noted that initially, when the proposal to go to the Nürburgring was made, the engineering team was opposed due to a lack of internal experience and a primary focus on stability. However, the decision was firmly made to proceed, with Chairman Lei Jun offering significant encouragement and emphasizing that the results were not the most important aspect.
Hu Zhengnan highlighted that the Nürburgring serves as a proving ground for high-performance vehicles, with nearly all high-performance cars worldwide having been tested there. For Xiaomi Automotive to enter the global market and gain recognition from international users as well as respect from industry peers, undertaking Nürburgring testing is considered an essential step.
