Recent online discussions have centered on the potential restriction of AI tools during the National College Entrance Examination (Gaokao) period. On May 26, inquiries were made to several major AI platform operators regarding their planned measures.
Customer service for the Doubao platform indicated that while Doubao itself would remain accessible, specific features such as photo-based problem-solving and Q&A functions would be disabled during the exam. The final implementation details, however, would be subject to the actual interface displays at the time, as no official notification had been received yet.
A representative from Tencent stated that its AI tool, Yuanbao, had a clear policy of not answering questions during last year's Gaokao period. A business lead from Baidu mentioned that there had been no notification regarding restricting services for its Ernie AI platform during the upcoming exams. An employee from Iflytek Co.,Ltd. noted that while there was no confirmed information yet, it was expected that all major language models would implement some form of restriction.
According to reports from last June, users posted that Tencent's Yuanbao was non-functional during the exam period, providing a standardized response to any image analysis requests. Other prevalent AI tools, including Kimi, Deepseek, and Doubao, were also reported to have implemented related settings during that time.
Further reports indicated that Alibaba's Tongyi App displayed a message stating that its "photo-based problem explanation service is temporarily closed during the Gaokao exam hours," though it could still process other images. The Kuake App showed a similar notice about disabling its "answer service" but maintained other image recognition functions. The Doubao App could identify regular photos, such as landscapes, but attempts to upload exam-related content resulted in a "non-compliant content, upload failed" message. Inputting random photos into Kimi triggered a response stating, "To ensure the fairness of the Gaokao, this function is unavailable during the exam period."
