At the fourth session of the 14th Beijing Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), member Liu Hengfu, a public artist, proposed enhancing the nighttime economy of the Beijing sub-center's Canal Business District by enriching its nocturnal landscapes and integrating them with the "Night Canal Cruise" water performance project.
Liu Hengfu pointed out that the Canal Business District's nighttime economic potential remains underutilized, with its current waterfront nightscape lacking distinctive features and failing to create compelling evening consumption scenes.
He suggested upgrading the nighttime visual effects through dynamic lighting technologies, complemented by aquatic light art installations, to construct a multi-dimensional and immersive nighttime artistic environment.
By linking the artistic landscapes along the canal with the "Night Canal Cruise" water performances, tourist boats could connect key scenic spots, seamlessly blending scenery, culture, and art to enhance the visual appeal and experiential quality of night tours, thereby providing greater emotional value for visitors.
Liu Hengfu believes that activating idle commercial spaces through the creation of art markets and lifestyle bazaars could make the nighttime economy a significant driver for attracting investment.
He also recommended leveraging the influence of online influencers for promotional visits, utilizing new media platforms for dissemination, and encouraging visitor sharing to continuously attract crowds through artistic vitality and promotional buzz, thereby stimulating commercial prosperity.
Liu Hengfu emphasized that by refining the nighttime landscape system and aquatic performance projects, the Canal Business District can offer richer emotional experiences for tourists, establishing it as a new landmark for nighttime consumption in Beijing, fostering deep integration of culture, commerce, and tourism, promoting the district's prosperity, and injecting new momentum into the development of the city's sub-center.
