Investment Bank BGL Finalizes Sale of Strategic Thermal Labs to Vertiv

Deep News07-21

Investment bank Brown Gibbons Lang & Company (BGL) announced on Monday the sale of Strategic Thermal Labs (STL) to a wholly-owned subsidiary of Vertiv Holdings Co.

STL is a thermal engineering firm based in Georgetown, Texas, specializing in direct-to-chip liquid cooling technology, including the design and development of high-performance cold plate solutions.

The company possesses deep expertise and proven capabilities in addressing the most demanding chip-level density and thermal challenges within data centers, high-performance computing, and AI infrastructure.

This acquisition will bolster Vertiv's engineering capabilities in cold plate design, server-side liquid cooling, and high-density thermal validation. It will aid in simulating real-world high-density computing conditions and optimizing the interaction between the thermal chain and the power train.

Scott Armul, Chief Product and Technology Officer at Vertiv, stated that as AI and high-performance computing push power density to unprecedented levels, understanding and solving thermal challenges at the chip level is critical for system design, performance, and reliability. He noted that STL brings the deep expertise and proven capabilities needed to tackle the industry's most demanding chip-level density and thermal problems.

The acquisition aligns with Vertiv's broader strategy of helping customers navigate increasing infrastructure complexity by integrating power, thermal management, control, and lifecycle service capabilities.

Vertiv emphasized that this transaction does not alter its commitment to an open ecosystem approach, and it will continue to support interoperable, server- and chip-agnostic infrastructure solutions.
