As of the end of September 2026, the total number of electric vehicle charging infrastructure units (guns) in China reached 24.777 million, representing a year-on-year increase of 37.2%, according to operational data on nationwide EV charging and battery-swap infrastructure for September 2026 released by the China Charging Alliance.
Among the total, public charging facilities (guns) stood at 5.207 million, up 16.3% year-on-year, with a total rated power of 266 million kilowatts and an average power per gun of approximately 51.10 kilowatts. Private charging facilities (guns) totaled 19.570 million, up 44.0% year-on-year, with reported installed electricity capacity for private charging facilities reaching 167 million kilovolt-amperes.
Regarding the regional distribution of public charging infrastructure across provinces, regions, and municipalities, the top 10 areas — Guangdong, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Fujian, Shandong, Shanghai, Henan, Anhui, Sichuan, and Hebei — accounted for 66.1% of all public charging facilities built nationwide. Nationwide charging electricity consumption was primarily concentrated in provinces including Guangdong, Jiangsu, Hebei, Sichuan, Zhejiang, Shanghai, Shandong, Fujian, Henan, and Shaanxi. The flow of electricity was mainly directed toward buses and passenger vehicles, while other vehicle types such as sanitation and logistics vehicles and taxis accounted for a relatively small share.
In September 2026, total nationwide charging electricity consumption was 12.46 billion kilowatt-hours, a decrease of 30 million kilowatt-hours compared with the previous month, up 62.3% year-on-year and down 0.3% month-on-month.
On the overall operation of charging infrastructure, from January to September 2026, the increment of charging infrastructure was 4.685 million units, down 10.7% year-on-year. Of this, the increment of public charging facilities was 490,000 units, down 45.4% year-on-year, while the increment of private charging facilities was 4.195 million units, down 3.5% year-on-year. As of the end of September 2026, the total number of electric vehicle charging infrastructure units (guns) in China reached 24.777 million, up 37.2% year-on-year.
In terms of the comparison between charging infrastructure and electric vehicles, from January to September 2026, the increment of charging infrastructure was 4.685 million units, while domestic sales of new energy vehicles reached 8.466 million units. Both charging infrastructure and new energy vehicles continued to grow rapidly. The incremental ratio of chargers to vehicles stood at 1:1.8, indicating that charging infrastructure development can basically meet the rapid growth of new energy vehicles.
