Pioneering AI Models for Pear and Soybean Industries Launched in Anhui

Deep News02-14

On February 10, Anhui Agricultural University officially released the world's first large-scale AI model for the pear industry, named "Li Xiang," alongside the first large-scale model for the soybean industry, called "Feng Shu." This milestone signifies China's acquisition of its inaugural specialized model system deeply integrated with artificial intelligence technology in the vertical sectors of pear and soybean production.

China is the world's leading pear producer, accounting for approximately 70% of global cultivation area and fruit yield. Anhui Province is a prime pear-growing region, ranking fourth nationally in pear output, with the "Dangshan Crisp Pear" being one of the most widely cultivated varieties in the country.

The "Li Xiang" model encompasses eight functional modules: historical culture, germplasm resources, smart breeding, gene bank spectra, literature analysis, efficient cultivation, pest control, and storage and processing. It integrates over ten thousand research papers, tens of millions of words of text, tens of thousands of question-answer pairs, thousands of images, hundreds of thousands of phenotypic data points, and massive genomic datasets related to the pear industry. The model features a proprietary AI-driven core breeding model, offering innovative solutions with Chinese characteristics for the high-quality, efficient, green, and intelligent development of the pear industry.

Soybean is a critical crop for ensuring national food and oil security, with Anhui ranking third in the country in terms of soybean planting area. The "Feng Shu" model addresses key bottlenecks in the soybean industry through six functional modules: soybean encyclopedia, soybean molecules, soybean literature, soybean diseases, soybean phenotypes, and soybean breeding. It consolidates more than 30,000 high-quality data entries, including core germplasm, phenotypic images, and scientific texts, and constructs a knowledge graph for the soybean domain containing 20,000 entities and 100,000 relationships. This model establishes the first generative AI breeding platform covering the entire lifecycle of soybeans, providing robust technological support for overcoming yield limitations, accelerating the development of breakthrough varieties, and strengthening national food and oil security.

In recent years, Anhui Agricultural University has proactively aligned with national strategies and regional development needs, optimizing its disciplinary structure and enhancing the role of artificial intelligence in empowering agricultural industry growth. The launch of "Li Xiang" and "Feng Shu" represents another breakthrough for the institution, following its release of the world's first tea industry large model, "Lu Yu," in 2025.
