During the YU7 GT launch event for Xiaomi's human-vehicle-home ecosystem, Lei Jun, Chairman and CEO of Xiaomi Group, delivered a keynote address.
The newly unveiled YU7 GT is positioned as a sports car-level SUV, emphasizing high performance, luxury comfort, and extended range. Regarding whether the YU7 GT should attempt a lap record at the Nürburgring, Lei Jun noted significant internal debate. The official Nürburgring lap time leaderboard for SUVs has listed only four models that completed a full lap since 2014, all being premium vehicles priced over a million. After extensive internal discussions, the decision was to prioritize track tuning over focusing solely on lap times. Ultimately, the YU7 GT demonstrated performance exceeding expectations, setting a new Nürburgring SUV lap record with a time of 7 minutes 34.931 seconds.
At the event, Lei Jun announced that the Xiaomi YU7 GT further broke the Nürburgring SUV lap record by 14 seconds, achieving a time of 7 minutes 22.755 seconds, making it the fastest SUV in the history of the Nürburgring. Lei Jun highlighted that among the 50 notable corners at the Nürburgring, the YU7 GT outperformed the Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT in cornering speed, securing 32 wins, 17 losses, and 1 tie.
