Sunway Chemical's Sulfur Recovery Technology Recognized as Globally Leading

Shandong Sunway Chemical Group Co.,Ltd. announced that its project, "Ultra-Low Emission Technology and Application for Acidic Gas Sulfur Resource Recovery and Tail Gas Purification," has passed the appraisal and review by the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation. The federation assessed the achievement as being at an internationally leading level overall. The project was also awarded the first prize in the 2025 Environmental Technology Progress Award by the China Association of Environmental Protection Industry.

In the engineering sector, the company, known as the "sulfur recovery expert," has independently developed a "sulfur recovery process technology without an online furnace" that has reached domestically leading and internationally advanced levels. Furthermore, the "off-site electrocatalytic full decomposition of hydrogen sulfide to produce hydrogen and sulfur technology," jointly developed by the company and the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, passed the scientific and technological achievement evaluation by the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation. The evaluation concluded that the achievement reaches an internationally leading level and unanimously agreed to pass the appraisal, recommending the scaling up of the unit and accelerating its promotion and application.

As of December 31, 2025, the company has cumulatively completed the design and EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) for 249 sets of various sulfur recovery units, with individual unit capacities ranging from 600 tons/year to 650,000 tons/year. The total capacity of these units amounts to 13.403 million tons per year, making the company the leading domestic entity in the design and EPC of sulfur recovery units.

Simultaneously, the company possesses strong market competitiveness in energy-saving and environmental protection engineering technology fields, including comprehensive utilization of C4 resources, high-pressure hydrogenation, acidic water vapor treatment, flue gas treatment, and wastewater treatment. In the field of new energy engineering, encompassing hydrogen energy, molten salt energy storage, and compressed air energy storage, the company has accumulated rich experience and achieved positive demonstration and social effects through multiple project practices.

In the chemical sector, the company holds independent intellectual property rights for carbonyl synthesis technology required for producing n-propanal and n-pentanal, butanol octanol residue recovery technology, and aldehyde hydrogenation technology. It also masters production technologies for propionic acid (butyric acid, valeric acid), 2-ethylhexanoic acid, cellulose acetate butyrate, and their derivatives, maintaining a leading position in the industry. The "Development and Industrialization of Key Technologies for High-Performance Cellulose Acetate Butyrate" project, led by the company, was selected for the 2025 Shandong Province Key R&D Program (Major Technological Innovation Project), with product performance nearing the level of imported equivalents.

In the catalyst field, the company has developed internationally leading low water-gas ratio sulfur-tolerant shift conversion processes and catalysts, and can provide technical services including process packages and proprietary equipment.
