Ant Group Co., Ltd. announced on September 21 that CEO Han Xinyi issued a company-wide letter detailing organizational and leadership changes for Alipay, aimed at accelerating its push into the agentic commerce sector. Under the new structure, the Alipay business group, the digital payments business group, and the Sesame Credit division will be merged into a single, newly formed Alipay business group.
Wu Minzhi will serve as President of the newly established Alipay business group while also holding the position of Chief People Officer (CPO) at Ant Group Co., Ltd. This restructuring represents a key organizational move by the company to strengthen its position in the intelligent agent commerce arena.
In his internal letter, Han Xinyi emphasized that the new business group will consolidate technological, product, and ecosystem capabilities to respond more swiftly to market dynamics. The goal is to enable every merchant to better serve customers and drive business growth through Alipay's AI open platform, while ensuring that the Alipay agent commerce ecosystem becomes more convenient, secure, and trustworthy in the AI era.
It is worth noting that this is not the first major reorganization of Alipay-related business units in recent months. On December 23, 2024, Han Xinyi issued a prior company-wide letter announcing the creation of two separate business groups—the digital payments division and the Alipay division—to further advance the "Alipay dual flywheel" and AI-first strategies. That earlier restructuring also introduced a rotating president system for both divisions, with each term lasting six months. At that time, Han Xinyi had already confirmed he would officially assume the role of CEO of Ant Group Co., Ltd. on March 1, 2025.
