Agricultural Innovation Drives Growth in Linfen's Farmlands

Deep News05-06 10:41

This year, Linfen has prioritized agricultural production by leveraging technology and supportive policies. Smart agricultural machinery is being widely deployed, technical training is provided directly in the fields, and efforts are intensified to combat counterfeit agricultural supplies. These measures aim to strengthen the local specialty industries through agricultural and tourism integration, enhance food security, and support high-quality agricultural development.

As summer begins, the fields of Linfen are bustling with activity. From the foothills of the Taiyue Mountains to the banks of the Yellow River, agricultural machinery can be heard at work, and farmers are busy cultivating the land. A modern agricultural landscape is taking shape, one that emphasizes both land and technology as the foundation of grain production.

Local agricultural authorities and related departments are concentrating on food security objectives, using policy support, technological innovation, and high-quality services to ensure smooth agricultural operations.

Agricultural drones are taking a leading role in field management. In Xincun Town, Hongtong County, drone operators oversee the spraying of wheat fields as part of integrated pest and disease control measures. According to Tao Feifei, head of Hongtong Huifei Agricultural Technology Co., the use of drones saves time and labor while improving efficiency.

Agricultural machinery has become the backbone of production. A wide range of smart farming equipment is now in operation across the region. Ren Kun, an official from the city's agricultural machinery department, stated that detailed plans have been made to coordinate the use of over 30,000 pieces of machinery, with the goal of planting more than 2.6 million mu of corn.

Support from financial, fuel, and supply departments has also been secured to provide favorable policies for agricultural service organizations.

Training sessions are being held directly in the fields. In Xiangfen County, experts from China Agricultural University and Shanxi Agricultural University demonstrated the use of advanced seeding and soil preparation machinery. Farmers learned about high-yield cultivation techniques for summer corn and winter wheat, as well as no-till precision planting methods.

Participants came from 17 counties and districts, eager to learn which machinery suits local conditions—whether mountainous or flat terrain. Li Aiguo, head of a maize planting cooperative in Fushan County, shared that after attending a training session last year, he purchased new integrated sowing machines that are well-suited for planting on slopes.

This year, he expanded his fleet to 13 machines, which will support planting across more than 30,000 mu of land under his cooperative’s management.

As wheat enters the critical flowering stage, local governments are guiding farmers in irrigation, fertilization, and disease prevention to protect the summer grain output.

Simultaneously, campaigns are underway to combat counterfeit agricultural inputs. In Ji County, known for its apple production, agricultural law enforcement personnel are educating fruit growers on how to identify certified seeds and fertilizers. Joint inspections are being conducted to ensure the quality of pesticides and fertilizers.

Duan Xiaojing, head of the city’s agricultural law enforcement team, emphasized that these efforts are not only about inspection but also education. Experienced officers are teaching newcomers and suppliers how to recognize counterfeit products, thereby safeguarding agricultural production.

In the mountainous areas along the Yellow River and Taiyue Mountains, specialty industries such as apple growing are flourishing. In Ji County, orchards are filled with blooming apple and pear flowers. Agricultural experts are on site guiding farmers in flower thinning, pest control, and other management practices to improve fruit quality.

Modern demonstration orchards in the area are equipped with digital monitoring systems that allow real-time tracking of soil moisture and temperature. Drip irrigation and mechanized management are widely adopted, making farming more efficient and precise.

As a featured product under the “Linfen Preferred” regional brand, Ji County apples have gained recognition domestically and are exported to markets such as Canada, boosting local incomes.

Many areas in Linfen are also hosting flower-themed festivals, such as the Apple Blossom Festival and Pear Blossom Festival, attracting tourists to experience rural scenery and agricultural activities.

Amid the busy farming season, the people of Linfen are working diligently to secure a fruitful harvest, contributing to national food security and advancing agricultural modernization.
