On July 10th, a policy education session on occupational injury protection for workers in new forms of employment was held at the Meituan delivery station in Lhasa, where delivery riders learned about the new protection policies and received exclusive summer work uniforms.

It is reported that starting July 1st, the pilot program for occupational injury protection for workers in new employment forms has been fully expanded nationwide. Meituan has simultaneously paid the full occupational injury protection premiums for riders across the country, achieving full coverage for all riders and every order. Riders in Tibet are now formally integrated into the institutionalized occupational injury protection system.

This event was jointly organized by the human resources and social security departments of the autonomous region and Lhasa city in collaboration with Meituan. On-site staff provided detailed explanations of the occupational injury protection policy, enrollment rules, and claims application process, offering hands-on guidance to help riders familiarize themselves with online procedures, effectively bridging the "last mile" for policy implementation.

According to information, the newly implemented rider occupational injury protection is fully paid per order by the platform, with no personal contribution required from riders. Once registered and accepting orders, riders are automatically included in the protection system, fundamentally changing the previous situation where flexible employment riders lacked adequate protection and faced cumbersome claims processes.

The coverage scope includes medical expenses, rehabilitation costs, disability allowances, death benefits, and more, comprehensively addressing various accident risks riders face during daily delivery trips.

Considering the complex road conditions and higher riding risks on the plateau, the platform has enabled a one-click reporting function within the rider APP. This eliminates the need for offline legwork or complicated form-filling, allowing for a quick online claims initiation, significantly improving protection efficiency.

"Previously, the biggest fear while delivering was having an accident on the road, with complex claims processes and nowhere to turn for help. Now, with this dedicated occupational injury protection, I feel much more secure," said Mr. Liu, a rider from Lhasa.

Rider Zhang Xingwei also noted that Lhasa's old city area has many sharp turns, posing high riding risks. The convenient one-click reporting function truly resolves everyone's concerns.

During the event, Meituan also distributed new summer work uniforms free of charge to on-duty riders. The new uniforms use outdoor-grade quick-dry, breathable fabric, significantly improving moisture-wicking and sweat-drying performance, making them suitable for the strong sunlight and high-intensity riding conditions on the plateau.

"This clothing is particularly breathable, and the quick-dry fabric is very suitable for our delivery work on the plateau," said rider Mr. Lin after trying on the new uniform.

It was explained that the occupational injury protection system has been gradually refined through years of pilot program development. The national pilot program was first launched in 2022, with Meituan as one of the first participating platforms, continuously promoting the implementation of the protection. As of June 2026, Meituan has cumulatively paid approximately 30 billion yuan in occupational injury protection premiums, benefiting over ten million riders.

With the nationwide policy fully implemented in July, all Meituan delivery riders in Tibet have now officially achieved universal protection for every rider and every order.

Currently, Meituan has established a multi-tiered rider protection system encompassing occupational injury protection, pension subsidies, and critical illness support. Starting in 2025, the platform fully implemented the rider pension insurance subsidy policy, subsidizing 50% of the insurance premiums for eligible riders, significantly reducing the financial pressure for flexible employment groups to enroll.

Jiang Haibo, a 45-year-old rider from Lhasa, enrolled in pension insurance starting March this year and receives a monthly platform subsidy of 706.62 yuan, amounting to nearly ten thousand yuan in annual subsidies. "This subsidy greatly reduces the financial pressure. Having pension insurance provides stable security for my later years," Jiang Haibo said.

Considering the special high-altitude working environment in Tibet, the platform has also specifically added special benefits such as plateau weather subsidies, outdoor work assistance, and rider care programs, comprehensively safeguarding the rights and interests of plateau riders.

A relevant Meituan official stated that this education event marks a new starting point for deepening the implementation of rider protection. Subsequently, they will continue to collaborate with human resources and social security departments to carry out policy education and promotion activities, shifting riders from "understanding the policies" to "skillfully utilizing the policies," ensuring that the benefits of various protections directly reach every new employment worker, using comprehensive rights protection to warm the hearts of those running through the city.
