Allianz Investment has announced a deal to acquire UOB Asset Management, the asset management arm of Singapore's United Overseas Bank Group, for S$555 million (approximately HK$3.4 billion), with the transaction expected to close by 2027.

Headquartered in Singapore, UOB Asset Management operates across eight key Asian markets, including Singapore, Brunei, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Taiwan, Japan, and Vietnam, managing assets worth €28 billion. This acquisition will strengthen Allianz Investment's presence in the Asia-Pacific region, increasing its total client-managed assets in the area to over €170 billion.

The investment capabilities of Allianz Investment and UOB Asset Management are highly complementary. UOB Asset Management brings deep expertise in Southeast Asian markets, while Allianz Investment offers a comprehensive global product lineup based on active management. The combination will enable clients to access a broader range of innovative investment capabilities and solutions, benefiting from enhanced offerings. Specifically, the merged platform will provide stronger Southeast Asian investment expertise, including regional and single-country equity strategies, as well as Sharia-compliant products, supporting the development of more differentiated solutions for clients in the future.

The deal includes a long-term distribution agreement, granting Allianz Investment access to UOB's retail customer network, reflecting confidence in the merged group's ability to serve UOB's client base with innovative products. Tobias Pross, CEO of Allianz Investment, stated that the transaction reinforces the company's long-term commitment to expanding its Southeast Asian investment product coverage, providing deeper market connections and new opportunities to engage with a broader client base. Wee Ee Cheong, Deputy Chairman and President of UOB, noted that this collaboration strengthens the bank's focus on wealth advisory and distribution businesses, combining UOB's advisory expertise and client relationships with Allianz Investment's investment capabilities to meet evolving client needs and support long-term wealth goals.
