What kind of talent does the satellite internet industry need? And how can universities' disciplinary and research strengths connect more precisely with the front lines of industry?
On September 24, the satellite internet special report meeting of Songjiang District's "2+4" modern industrial system campus series was held at Shanghai University of Engineering Science. Key enterprises including Yuanxin Satellite, Gesi Aerospace, Xuntian Qianhe, Zhongke Tiansuan, and Lianchen Qianfan met face to face with faculty and students from universities in Songjiang University Town, bringing industry frontiers, technical needs, and talent demands directly onto campus.
Satellite internet industrial chain enters Songjiang University Town
One end connects to industry, the other to universities. The significance of this event is not just to let students understand an industrial chain, but to link industry needs with talent cultivation and research innovation at an earlier stage. Centering on the construction of the Songjiang University Town sci-tech innovation source, Songjiang is pushing universities to perceive industrial changes more promptly and enabling enterprises to participate more deeply in talent cultivation and collaborative innovation.
At present, Songjiang is accelerating the building of its "2+4" modern industrial system. As an important emerging industry within it, satellite internet has gathered nearly 100 related enterprises, forming an industrial ecosystem covering satellite manufacturing, constellation operations, satellite payloads, materials and components, and application services. The District Economic Commission promoted Songjiang's satellite internet and space-based computing industries.
As the industry accelerates, the demand for talent also upgrades. "Aerospace itself is a systems engineering endeavor, not something a single discipline can accomplish," said Wei Ran, general manager of Shanghai Xuntian Qianhe Technology Co., Ltd. He said the company hopes to deepen cooperation with universities such as Donghua University and Shanghai University of Engineering Science in engineering fields including machinery, electronics, and automation, so that talent cultivation, research collaboration, and the company's actual needs can be more tightly connected.

Cooperation between enterprises and universities is also extending from talent recruitment to collaborative education. Jiang Xinglong, vice president of Zhongke Tiansuan (Shanghai) Information Technology Co., Ltd., said the company has accumulated a large number of engineering practice scenarios and complex technical problems, while universities possess multidisciplinary teachers, research teams, and young students. "Connecting the two sides earlier allows us to move from a single discipline to multidisciplinary collaboration, achieving innovative breakthroughs in the process of solving real engineering problems," he said.

This change keeps pace with the evolution of the industry itself. Currently, Songjiang is focusing on four main lines: spaceborne computing hardware, in-orbit computing software, satellite-ground computing scheduling, and space-based industry applications, promoting deep integration of "6G + AI + satellite internet + space-based computing." As communications, computing, artificial intelligence, and other technologies accelerate their convergence, the industry's demand for interdisciplinary and engineering-oriented talent becomes more urgent.
Dai Zhiming, deputy director of the District Economic Commission, said that carrying out the "2+4" modern industrial system campus series is intended to bring the development directions of key industries, enterprise needs, and application scenarios more directly to universities, while also enabling enterprises to gain a deeper understanding of the talent and research resources in the university town. Next, Songjiang will continue to build government-university-enterprise cooperation platforms around key industries, promote more precise matching between enterprise needs and universities' disciplinary strengths, talent, and research resources, and continuously inject talent and innovation momentum into the construction of Songjiang District's "2+4" modern industrial system.
